The Tale of Two Kingdoms

The Bible is full of objective truths. Things we may see evidence of, but we can't explain. Physical evidence of spiritual principles and laws. One of these observable truths is the duality of Gods Holiness and the worlds wickedness. Jesus illustrated this using an analogy of two kingdoms.

These Kingdoms are often referred to as different names, but the destinations and origins are the same. But for the sake of clarity and understanding we will refer to the two kingdoms as the Kingdom of Flesh and the Kingdom of Spirit. Now this illustration given to us by God is to help us understand spiritual concepts so that we may choose life and live. These kingdoms are not physical cities or geographical locations. These kingdoms exist in the heart but that does not mean they are any less real than the city you and I live in. These two kingdoms expand worldwide and every person on Earth belongs to one of these kingdoms.

The Kingdom of the world is sometimes and rightly so referred to as the Kingdom of death, darkness and destruction. The reason behind this is that the kingdom of the world is born by natural means. And anything natural must die. Not only is the kingdom of the world born by natural means it is sustained by natural instinct, natural desires and lastly not only natural but also very limited in law. The natural world is a physical world. The physical world in itself has no rhyme or reason. Things just are and that leaves room for subjectivity to run rampant. All of these characteristics are very evident in this natural world around us. Schools of thought that are born out of this natural world bring forth ideas like "live fast, die young", "YOLO", F***  it" "For the plot" and other ideologies that prioritize the fulfillment and gratification of immediate physical and often sinful pleasures.

The natural world has a hard time objectively identifying right from wrong. The natural world is more concerned with the immediate physical desires, thoughts, feelings and intentions even though they admit it is not wise to do so. This cognitive dissonance we all feel is evidence that the natural world resides opposite and contrary to the supernatural one. The supernatural world which as the name rightly suggests is higher than the natural world we are born into. This supernatural world is a world where morality and righteousness are firstborns and those who find citizenship, find the objective answers this natural world simply cannot  provide because the desires of the physical blind the mind of its citizens.

Let's get into the characteristics of the kingdoms:

Every Kingdom has a RULER

Colossians 1:13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son.

  1. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works. Psalm 145:9
  2. No one is good but One, that is, God. Mark 10:18
  3. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17
  4. The Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Psalm 92:15

Every Kingdom has LAWS

Galatians 5:19-21Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Every Kingdom has a CULTURE

Ephesians 2:2 In which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—

EPHESIANS 4:23-29 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Every Kingdom determines the FATE or OUTCOME of its citizens

Mathew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

WHICH KINGDOM WILL YOU SERVE?

Matthew 6:24“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."
